Future Solar Eclipses
2045 Total Solar Eclipse
The next total solar eclipse that can be seen from North America (mostly Canada) is August 22-23, 2044.
For much of the United States, a total solar eclipse will be visible August 12, 2045. The path below is from west to east.

2024 Total Solar Eclipse
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse crossed North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky darkens as if it were dawn or dusk.

2023 Annular Solar Eclipse
An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon covers the Sun's center, leaving the Sun's visible outer edges to form a "ring of fire" or annulus around the Moon. The last Annular Solar Eclipse in the US occurred October 14, 2023.
